Hermosa beach bathroom changes

A 2008 photo shows poles erected by the city, which helped Hermosans decide they wanted new beach bathrooms no taller than the existing ones.

The city is closing the beach bathrooms at Second and 22nd streets for demolition, followed by a long-waited rebuilding. Porta-potties will be available during the closures. When that work is done, the beach bathrooms at 14th Street will be demolished and not replaced, due to budget constraints.

Officials said the timing of the construction, which will close the Second and 22nd street facilities through the summer, was caused by a drawn-out bidding process that included some disqualifications. Closure of the 14th Street bathrooms will leave beachgoers with restrooms evenly spaced at Second, the pier, and 22nd, they said. ER
