Hermosa Beach Hotdoggers Longboard Contest Presented by Subaru Pacific [men’s division gallery 1 of 2]

The Hermosa Beach Hotdogger Championship presented by Subaru Pacific brought together in Hermosa Beach the most extraordinary collection men and women hotdogger talent since Dewey Weber surfed 22nd Street during the 1960s Golden Age of Surfing.
Saturday’s contest on the south side of the Hermosa Beach pier was the first longboard contest in Hermosa since the last Aloha Days in 2004.
Over 120 longboarders from throughout Southern California competed in glassy, walled up, waist- to head-high waves in the morning and walled up, blown out waves in the afternoon. In the tradition of the early longboard contests there were no leashes, no interference rules and boards had to be nine-foot-plus singlefins.
By blessed coincidence, a life-size, bronze sculpture of Weber, known as “The Little Man on Wheels” for his fast foot work, was delivered to Hermosa Beach just 48 hours before the contest. The sculpture, by Phil Roberts, will be unveiled at the Community Center on Saturday, November 14. — Photos
