Hermosa Beach July 4 Ironman approaches half century
A popular, though controversial Hermosa Beach tradition approached the half century mark this Fourth of July with the 49th annual holding of the Hermosa Beach Ironman. Over 600 competitors and spectators attended the run a mile, paddle a mile, chug a six-pack of (light) beer. (Upchucking during the final stage is a disqualifying offense.) Multitime winner, runner and Hermosa Beach activist Annie Seawright Newton prevailed again in the women’s division. Volleyball player Kevin Collins was a first time winner in the men’s division.

This is our way of transitioning to a future where newspapers are supported by their readers. Which is as it should be. We hope you’ll support us. — Kevin Cody, Publisher
