Hermosa Beach’s first ever silent, live music concert will take place this weekend during a Super Bowl weekend sale hosted by the Downtown Hermosa Merchants Association. Concert organizer Harmony Project will distribute studio quality headphones for fans to listen to local musicians perform in front of Java Man, at Pier and Manhattan Beach avenues. The musicians had intended their music to be amplified, but were unable to obtain a city permit for amplified music.

Java Man Jam II will take place Saturday, from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m.

The Super Bowl Weekend Sale begins Friday and continues through Sunday. Over 50 downtown retailers will offer 20 percent to 80 percent off their most popular merchandise.

“Seasonal sales are pivotal moments for the ongoing success of local businesses and it’s important for us to find ways to bring the community together and showcase Downtown Hermosa as truly one of the best destinations in Southern California for shopping and dining,” said Brian Cooley, who along with his brother Colin, own the downtown Beach & Beverly fashions store, Wicked+ A General Store and Wicked+ Creative Agency.”

Harmony Project’s Adam Malovani, who is providing the headphones for the Silent Jam, said the weekend promotion is the result of the downtown business association working with the city, chamber, donors, volunteers and local musicians.

Jack Tracy will emcee the concert and Adam Lawson will manage the sound system. To listen via headphones, fans must present a driver’s license or credit card.
