The City of Hermosa Beach is partnering with Energy Upgrade California to host a green block party on Sept. 15 that will feature a demonstration of how a Hermosa home is losing energy, exhibits of upgrades that prevent energy loss, and information on financial incentives for homeowners who make upgrades.
The block party will take place 5 to 7:30 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 15 at the home of Dorothy Forba and Ken Hartley,723 30th St.
Attendees will be eligible for a $200 energy upgrade coupon on a first-come, first-serve basis, as long as supplies last. Organizations may also use the event as a fundraising tool by convincing homeowners to make energy efficient upgrades. Organizations can raise as much as $500 for each homeowner who completes the upgrades.
Earlier in September, the city also announced increased savings for residents and businesses conducting energy upgrades through new and ongoing incentives and fee waivers. Among the incentives are energy upgrade rebates of up to $4,500 per home. Information on these incentives and others will be available at the block party.
Energy Upgrade California is an alliance among California counties, cities, private and public utilities and non-profit organizations that is committed to educating consumers about energy conservation, encouraging green building practices and providing access to energy upgrade incentive programs.
“We want to thank Dorothy and Ken for opening their house for this special event and Energy Upgrade California for working with us on this important effort,” Mayor Howard Fishman said.
“We are proud of how the city and community work together to conserve energy, protect the environment and fulfill our commitment to a greener future. This block party is the perfect one-stop shop for folks to find out what they can do to save energy and money, and we hope it encourages others to take a green step forward,” he said.
