Homeless man accused of stabbing another homeless man

A homeless man was being held in lieu of $1 million bail after he allegedly stabbed another homeless man in a dispute over a jacket, police said.

The two began to fight each other shortly before 11:45 a.m. Saturday near Jamba Juice at 703 Pier Ave.

“The fight is allegedly over a jacket the suspect was wearing that belonged to the victim,” Hermosa Beach Police Sgt. Robert Higgins said.

“During the fight, a knife was produced and the victim was stabbed in the neck and back. It is unclear who produced the knife. Witnesses called the police,” Higgins said.

“HBPD officers located the suspect in a nearby neighborhood still wearing the jacket in question and with a bloody knife in his pocket,” Higgins said.

Police and firefighter-paramedics responded, and the victim was transported to an area hospital for treatment. His condition was serious but stable, with non-life threatening stab wounds, police said.

Gary Akeley Fisher, 55, was arrested on suspicion of attempted murder and booked into the Los Angeles County Jail, police said.

The victim’s name was withheld out of concern for his safety, Higgins said.

Police urge anyone with information about the case to call Detective Mick Gaglia at 310-318-0348.
