School future

The city school board is encouraging community members to make comments and voice their views on potential plans for the future, such as a restructured administration, charter schools, and a measure for a parcel or sales tax, at the board’s regular meeting 7 p.m. Wednesday, Sept. 21 at the City Council chambers, 1315 Valley Drive.

Friendly books

The third Saturday of the month is coming up and Hermosa Beach Friends of the Library will hold a sale of used books, VHS tapes and DVDs 9 a.m. to noon Saturday, Sept. 17 at 1309 Bard Street, a half block west of the public library.

“We appreciate all the donations we have been receiving and it’s for your benefit that you come and check us out. Our prices can’t be beat – 25 cents for most paperbacks and 50 cents for most hardcover books,” said the Friends.

Handel & fireworks

It’s only $15, or $10 for Hermosa Five-0 members, for a city-sponsored bus ride to Hollywood Bowl and admission to the show 8 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 15. Bus pickup at the Community Center, 710 Pier Ave., is 5:30 p.m.
