New leader

The Hermosa Beach Chamber of Commerce has named its interim executive director, Maureen Hunt, to the post on a permanent basis.

“This is an exciting time for the Hermosa Beach Chamber of Commerce and we are pleased to name Maureen as our executive director,” said board President Jed Sanford.

In the past year, chamber membership has grown nearly 25 percent, and its website — www.HBchamber.net — was redesigned. The chamber set aside money for improvements in many areas of town, and sponsored the popular St. Patrick’s Day Parade, Holiday Tree Lighting and New Year’s Eve entertainment on the Pier Plaza.

Hunt has been with the chamber since 2003, and began serving as interim executive director a year ago, after the previous executive director, Carla Merriman, was removed from her post by the chamber board, which was seeking a new direction for the organization.
