State of the City

The ninth annual “State of the City” address will be delivered 6 to 7:30 p.m. Thursday, March 10 by Mayor Pete Tucker at the Beach House Hotel.

Sponsored by the Hermosa Beach Chamber of Commerce & Visitors Bureau, the event is open to all residents and businesspeople. A supper buffet and refreshments will be served. Tucker will outline the accomplishments made in 2010, the revenues and expenditures, and future projects in Hermosa Beach.

Kiss me…

…I’m Irish. The Hermosa Beach Chamber of Commerce sponsors the 2011 Hermosa Beach St. Patrick’s Day Parade 11 a.m. Saturday, March 12.

The chamber is shouldering the 17-year-old event, one of Hermosa’s most popular ones, after the city took it from its exhausted volunteer founders and then passed it along, citing budget constraints.

Large crowds typically pack Pier Avenue to watch local dignitaries, marching bands, Irish dancers, scouts, pipe bands and the like make their way downhill to Hermosa Avenue.

The local bicycle community is inviting all to ride in the parade’s bike entry.

“Bike or ride something cool and amazing. This will be fun!” a prepared statement read.

The Hermosa Cyclery Best Bike Contest will be held just before the parade begins. For more see hermosacyclery.com.
