Seabass will shred for the schools at the second annual Snowfest.

It might not be a white Christmas in town, but it will be a white Saturday, Dec. 10 as sponsors Spyder Surf, Volcom and Electric make 60 tons of snow to turn a stretch of upperPier Avenue into Mount Hermosa for the second annual Snowfest.

Top snowboarders from all over L.A. will be on hand along with local dignitaries.

Pro-Am and college contests will be held 1:30 to 4:30 p.m., and free sledding will be open to all kids under 15 from 5 to 8 p.m.

This year’s event also will feature a snow area for kids 5 and under on the Pier Plaza near the official Hermosa “holiday tree,” which was formally lit last week in a ceremony attended by Santa and Mrs. Claus.

Competitive skateboarder Sebastian “Seabass” Kuhr, 10, will launch a snowboarding “Shred for the Schools” fundraiser at Snowfest. Kuhr also holds an annual “Skate for the Schools” event to raise money for Hermosa’s cash-strapped public schools.

He will shred early in the event, and donations can be made to the Hermosa Beach Education Foundation through his mom, Samantha, who can be reached at sam.kuhr@verizon.net  or 310-600-0649.

Donors enter a drawing with a 2012 Volcom snowboard and 2012 Electric goggles as grand prize.
