LA County registers 132 new COVID-19 cases in 48 hours, bringing total to 409 and 36 in the South Bay

The Los Angeles County Department of Public Health on Sunday confirmed 71 new cases of 2019 Novel Coronavirus (COVID-19), the biggest one day increase since the outbreak began, bringing the countywide total to 409. The numbers included six cases in the South Bay and one new death, which brings the total to five deaths in LA County. The death was reported as an individual from Culver City was over 65 and had underlying health conditions.

“We are deeply sorry for the passing of loved ones and send our prayers to the families and friends of those who have died from COVID-19,” said Barbara Ferrer, Los Angeles County Public Health Director. “It is critical that everyone practices social distancing, obey the Safer at Home Health Officer Order and assume that anyone can have COVID-19, and anyone could unintentionally infect others. Please know that the actions you take today to stay six feet away from others and limit all non-essential activities outside your home are the best way for us to slow the spread of COVID-19 and save lives.”

Over the last 48 hours there have been 132 new cases. The new cases in the South Bay included two in Redondo Beach, bringing the total there to four. Carson, Torrance, Lomita Inglewood each had a single new confirmed case, while Rancho Palos Verdes saw its first case. El Segundo’s cases dropped from two to one in the County’s data.
