Schools never learn

Dear ER:

I had to shake my head in dismay after reading about another problem the Manhattan Beach Unified District has to address. (“MBUSD administrator investigated after teacher complaints,” ER November 29, 2023). I too had to deal with arrogant “helicopter” administrators back in the days when I was a teacher and athletic coach. I too dealt with arrogant dictatorships housed in the district office to which I reported. I also had superiors who did not understand that taking off for “PN” (Personal Necessity) Days is just that — “Personal.” The mere fact I had to document the reason took away from the personal status. Many of the school districts in California do not suffer from money problems. They suffer from spending problems. I have always supported cutting expenditures from the administrative bureaucracy and using that money for classroom/teacher needs. That can minimize time spent on fund raisers. organizing charitable organizations and burdening residents with parcel taxes.
