Local yoga teachers from across the South Bay will be coming together on their hands, feet and heads to put together the first South Bay Yoga Conference. The event will be held on Aug. 10-12 from starting at 8 a.m. at Washington Elementary School in Redondo Beach.
There will be 40 presenters, 30 of which are local, during the three-day event and an entertainment schedule featuring free musical performances as well as live music with meditation. One of the classes about the Feldenkris Method, a movement-based educational system designed to improve function and overall wellness of being, will be led by Redondo Beach Unified School District school board member Jane Diehl.
“The purpose is to get teachers and mindful-living professionals together,” said the South Bay Yoga Conference Director Jules Mitchell. “We also want to bring more yoga to more people.”
The event has expanded their local reach by donating 400 event tickets to various community programs.
“We want to put tickets into the hands of people who wouldn’t normally come,” said Mitchell.
The yoga classes are designed for ever level of yogi, from beginning to advanced. All of the classes are led by volunteers and feature discussions, workshops, sessions in variety of yoga styles, pilates, Alexander technique, meditation, aromatherapy, Reiki, Ayurveda, hypnotherapy and massage as well as free kids yoga everyday from 11 a.m. to 12 p.m. There will also be a marketplace that will feature local community-based vendors, healing arts practitioners, body workers, artists and musicians. The conference is open and free to the public.
“We want to do this every year,” said Mitchell. “We’re just a collective of yoga teachers trying to bring yoga to the community.”
