
Featuring nine teams ranked in the CIF Southern Section, the second Bay League cross country meet takes place Thursday at Palos Verdes beginning at 2:45 p.m. where Redondo’s girl’s team and the boys from Palos Verdes will attempt to win their second league race.
In the Division 2 boy’s poll, Redondo in ranked No. 5, West No. 8 and Peninsula No. 9. In the girl’s rankings, Redondo is No. 3, Mira Costa No. 6, Peninsula No. 11 and West No. 13. Both Palos Verdes teams hold the No. 1 spot in Division 3.
While Mira Costa’s teams remained local and ran in the Manhattan Beach 10K on Saturday, Redondo was in Fresno competing in the Clovis Invitational where both boys and girls team enjoyed success.
Redondo’s girl’s team captured the Division 1 championship with 71 points, easily defeating runner-up Long Beach Poly (155) and Clovis (178) in the field of 24 teams.
Redondo runners finished 4-5-6 with Amber Gore leading the Lady Sea Hawks with a time of 18 minutes, 20 seconds. Cara Ulizio (5th, 18:29) and Kayla Ferron (6th, 18:31) continued having strong seasons.
Alexis Thibodeau (26th, 19:26), Nicole Pederson (32nd, 19:29), Paige Sullivan (33rd, 19:29) and Erin South, (75th, 20:12) also ran for Redondo.
Redondo’s boy’s team placed second in Division 1 competition with 122 points trailing El Toro (97) and finishing ahead of Crescenta Valley (142) in the field of 27 teams.
Evan Malone-White (12th, 15:54) was the top finisher for the Sea Hawks followed by Will Tait (15th, 15:59), Dustin Herold (27th, 16:14), Carlos Suarez (32nd, 16:22), Garrett Klatte (36th, 16:24), Tomohiro Yamaya (44th, 16:31) and Radi Waseem (68th, 16:43).
The boys and girls teams from Redondo and Mira Costa will compete in the prestigious Mt. SAC Invitational in Walnut on Saturday, Oct. 20 in a final tune-up before the Bay League finals at Polliwog Park in Manhattan Beach on Thursday, Nov. 1.
