The body of an unidentified man was located along the shoreline Rancho Palos Verdes early on July 4.
Concerns for swimmers in the area began around 6:45 p.m. on July 3, according to a release sent by the L.A. County Sheriff’s Department. That’s when witnesses reported a swimmer in distress about 100 yards offshore near Trump National Golf Course. Though one person paddled a surfboard into the area to help, the swimmer wasn’t found.
L.A. County Sheriff’s deputies were called in, alongside personnel from County Fire, Lifeguards and the Coast Guard, searching by sea and air. However, the search was called off at nightfall.
A man’s body was spotted around 7:15 a’.m. along the shore east of the Portuguese Bend Club, matching the description of the missing swimmer. His identity, however, was unknown as of this writing, and it’s unclear if he was with anyone at the beach on Monday. According to witnesses, he was spotted swimming alone, yelling for help and holding onto an inflatable toy.
Anyone with additional information is asked to call the Lomita Sheriff’s Station at 310-539-1661.
