A man missing from a capsized dinghy on Oct. 11, near the Redondo Pier has not been found.

Despite a helicopter search that night, and by divers the next morning — along with a remote-controlled submarine and sonar — no body has turned up, and no one has been reported missing, according to Redondo Beach Police Lt. Fabian Saucedo.

The man, who witnesses described as age 40 to 50, took a motor-less dinghy from a dock in King Harbor sometime around sunset and was seen struggling in the surf before the boat overturned.

“With no one reported missing, we wonder if it may have been a homeless person, and no one really knew him,” said Lt. Saucedo. “And there is a possibility, although remote, that he somehow swam out of there and nobody saw him come out in the dark.”

Lifeguard searchers estimate it takes 7 to 10 days for a body close-in to the beach to rise to the surface and wash ashore.
