Disaster preparedness

for local businesses

Business owners are invited to join the Manhattan Beach Fire Department Fire Prevention Division on Oct. 23  for an evening of important facts and tips to safeguard businesses from a variety of looming hazards. Among the topics covered will be: fire/safety; fire extinguisher demo; AED overview; a mock business inspection.

MBFD Chief Daryn Drum said the idea for the event, which is a collaboration with the MB Chamber and the Downtown Business Professional Association, grew out of a town hall a few months ago about disaster preparedness for homeowners.

“We realized that we have not done anything to help our business community prepare for those very same disasters,” Drum said. “Something as simple as having spare clothes in your car in the event that we have a significant earthquake — we could have workers without comfortable wearable shoes, stuck at work for days.”

The event, which is free to attend, takes place from 6 to 8 p.m. at MB Fire Station #1, 400 15th St.
