Manhattan Beach City Council awards street-sweeping and landscape maintenance contracts

Athens Services

Athens ServicesManhattan Beach City Council awarded a five-year street-sweeping contract to Athens Services and a five-year landscape and exterior custodial maintenance contract to CleanStreet just after midnight on July 6. The city awarded the contracts to lowest bidders for each service. The total annual cost for these services is $560,914, according to a staff report, down from the $684,700 the city has spent on these services to date.

The council stated fiscal responsibility for splitting the services between Athens and CleanStreet – the city will save $27,232 on street cleaning and $5,798 on landscape and custodial maintenance. Prior to this, CleanStreet had been providing street sweeping services for the city for 15 years and landscape and custodial maintenance for six years.

The Athens’ contract can be terminated at no cause, said Councilmember Nick Tell. “If we don’t like the service, we can say either improve it or we’re going to move on,” Tell said.
