Tennis: Jack Metalsky, of Manhattan Beach, will represent the United States at the 34th International Tennis Federation (ITF) Super-Seniors World Team Championships to be held Oct. 13-18 in Antalya, Turkey. Metalsky is one of four U.S. players on the Men’s 70 & over team that will compete for the Jack Crawford Cup. The tournament is the senior tennis equivalent of the Davis Cup and Fed Cup competitions and the most prestigious team event on the ITF Seniors circuit.
Volleyball: Surfside Volleyball Club will be holding tryouts for girls Thursday, Oct. 9 from 5-6:30 p.m. for 12 & unders and 7-8:45 p.m. for 13s and 14s at Manhattan Beach Middle School. A memorial volleyball tournament will be held for Clint Clausen, owner of Four Daughters Kitchen in Manhattan Beach who passed away recently. The co-ed fours tournament will take place Saturday, Oct. 11 at 8:30 a.m. at the Marine Street courts in Manhattan Beach. All proceeds will be going to the 529 education funds for Clausen’s four daughters. Funding of the tournament is through sponsorships and donations and organizers are looking to local businesses for sponsorships in denominations of $250 and higher, donations to auction at the event, or items to pass out to participants in “goodie bag” fashion. Paddleboarding: The 2nd annual Beyond the Shore Festival will be held Sunday, Oct. 12 at Seaside Lagoon in Redondo Beach where an attempt will be made to set a Guinness World Record for the largest SUP race. The event also includes a relay fun race, and a kids’ race. This is a fundraising event for BeyondTheShore.org, a non-profit organization dedicated to ocean conservation, education and awareness. Football: El Camino College will be playing its home games this season at Redondo Union High School while construction of its new football stadium takes place. The Warriors play National Central Conference home games against Cerritos (Oct. 11), Harbor (Oct. 25) and Mt. San Antonio (Nov. 8). All home games kick off at 4 p.m.
Triathlon: Registration is open for the Day at the Beach Triathlon to be held at 7 a.m. Sunday, Oct. 12 in Hermosa Beach. The event includes a ¼ mile ocean swim, 10 mile bike and 3 mile run. Running: The 37th Annual Manhattan Beach 10K will take place Saturday, Oct. 4 at 7:30 a.m. with approximately 4,000 participants will run through downtown and residential streets of the city, finishing at the Manhattan Beach Pier. Registration on ongoing for the annual GI Bootcamp Fall Pier 2 Pier Run/Walk held in the sand from the Hermosa Beach Pier to the Manhattan Beach Pier.
