Mira Costa captured a share of the Bay League title with a 12-6 victory over rival Redondo and, after splitting its league series with co-champion Palos Verdes, was selected as the Bay League’s No. 1 team earning head coach Jon Reichardt’s team a home game in the first round.

But the Mustangs saw their season end Wednesday with a 13-6 loss to No. 8 Edison (17-11) who had advanced to play Mira Costa after defeating Northwood 15-6 in a wild-card game Tuesday.

Marisa Purcell scored four goals and Emily Milstead and Sara Booth had one apiece for Mira Costa which finished with a 17-7 record.

Defending CIF Division 2 champion Palos Verdes (16-11) also couldn’t get on track, losing 13-2 at No. 6 Santa Barbara (20-8) in the first round.

Redondo (13-10) earned a wild card berth and traveled to take on No. 10 San Marcos Tuesday. Unfortunately for the Sea Hawks, they were on the short end of a 16-4 score.

Three South Bay teams earned seeds in Division 6, led by Ocean League champion El Segundo (25-6) who earned a first round bye as the No. 5 seed. The Eagles defeated Poly/Pasadena 6-2 in the second round on Thursday before eliminating No. 4 La Quinta 10-9 in overtime in the quarterfinals on Saturday.

In Wednesday’s semifinal contest, Colette Gulick scored five goals for El Segundo but it wasn’t enough to upset top-seeded Warren (24-7) who defeated the Eagles 11-5. Warren advances to play second-seeded Malibu (23-8)  in the championship game to be played at 10:30 a.m. Saturday  at William Woollett, Jr. Aquatics Center in Irvine.

Prep League champion Chadwick (21-7) was seeded sixth and also was awarded a bye in the first round. The Dolphins won a shootout it their first game, beating Beaumont 13-10 but fell to No. 3 Cerritos 9-6 on Saturday.
