The Strand House, a 250-seater, contemporary new American restaurant, opens to the public today. On Tuesday, the restaurant held a charity event benefiting the Roundhouse Aquarium.

The kitchen is equipped with a spit for roasting whole animals and a wood-burning pizza oven.

Executive chefs, Travis Lorton, formerly of Gjelina in Venice Beach, and Neal Fraser of Grace restaurant, spearheaded the menu, filled with local farmers-market ingredients. Seth Caro, former contestant on “Top Chef: Just Desserts” is the pastry chef – his signature dish is butterscotch doughnuts.

The restaurant is a partnership between brothers David and Michael Zislis, and the Hunter and Bloomfield families.

The restaurant is located at 117 Manhattan Beach Blvd. and is open daily from 5 p.m. to close, and at 10 a.m. on Saturday and Sunday for brunch.
