The City of Palos Verdes Estates has hired interim police chief David Hinig to replace retired chief John Eberhard. Hinig comes from Arcadia, California where he served in the police department for more than 38 years, most recently as chief of police.

For the past eight years, Hinig has worked in a series of interim police chief positions. He served as interim chief in Sierra Madre for eight months in 2005, La Habra for one year in 2009 and again in 2010 after an unexpected retirement.

Hinig also serves as a senior law enforcement consultant and provides expert witness assistance to law firms representing government agencies. Hinig said he was honored to be selected.

“The Department has an excellent reputation in the law enforcement community and I look forward to assisting them as we transition to a permanent Chief,” he said in a prepared statement.

City Manager Anton Dahlerbruch said he expects Hinig to serve in the interim position for about six months while the police chief recruitment is conducted. ER
