Police Beat: Redondo Beach September 29, 2011

Bush Fight On Tuesday, September 20, 2011 at approximately 11:41 p.m., the Fire Department was responding to call when they came across a male subject in the 1700 block of Camino de la Costa, which appeared to be injured and in need of assistance. According to a police release, the Fire Department stopped to render aid when a second male subject was discovered nearby hiding behind a vehicle. The injured man had a laceration on his hand (defensive wound) that he received from the other subject. Fire personnel asked the suspect if he had any weapons, and the suspect pulled out a knife and pointed it at them. The suspect attempted to stop the fire personnel from rendering aid to the other man. The suspect was asked to drop the knife, and he dropped it. The Police Department responded to assist.  The suspect resisted officers as they took him into custody for threats, resisting arrest, and assault charges.  The suspect’s father also attempted to intervene and was arrested for public intoxication. No officers or fire personnel were injured during this incident.

 

Armed Road Rage On Wednesday, September 21, 2011 at approximately 1:29 p.m., Officers were dispatched to a report of a motorist brandishing a firearm. According to a police report, the reported road  rage incident involved the suspect displaying a gun toward the victim.  The victim described  the suspect vehicle and a patrol officer found the vehicle in the Rite Aid Parking Lot near PCH /Carnelian St.  Officers took the suspect into custody along with his passenger.  During the investigation officers determined that the suspects had also stolen items from a vehicle parked in the same parking lot.  The victim was located  and the property was identified.  The gun was recovered and determined to be a realistic looking Airsoft gun.  The suspect was booked at theRedondo Beach  jail on weapons and theft charges.

Methamphetamine confessions On Wednesday, September 21, 2011 at approximately 7:50 p.m., a patrol Sergeant observed a bicyclist  fail to stop for a stop sign and conducted an enforcement stop. According to a police report, during the stop the suspect admitted to being in possession of methamphetamine and a hypodermic needle and also being on probation for narcotics. The Suspect was arrested for the narcotics violations. The suspect was booked and placed in a holding cell at theRedondo Beachjail. During a routine check, a jailer observed the suspect attempting to harm himself in a jail cell.

Wrong Turn Crash On Sunday, September 25, 2011 at approximately 12:31 a.m., a call was received regarding a traffic collision on Hawthorne Bl at Artesia Bl.  According to a police report, one vehicle made a westbound turn from Hawthorne to Artesia against a red light. The other vehicle was traveling south on Hawthorne Bl and was struck by the turning vehicle.  A passenger in the turning vehicle was injured and transported to a local hospital for injuries. The driver was arrested for felony DUI. Both vehicles sustained major collision damage.
