Counterfeit bills

At about 1:45 p.m on Dec. 13 at 1601 Hawthorne Blvd, officers were dispatched to a call regarding a subject attempting to pass counterfeit $100 bills at Target.  According to a police release, officers arrived in the area and contacted the suspect in the Living Spaces parking lot.  The officer recovered three counterfeit $100 bills from the suspect and placed him under arrest.  Officers also determined that the suspect was on parole for stalking.  An additional parole hold charge was placed on the suspect.   

 

Road rage

At about 3:15 p.m on Dec. 13 at 200 N Prospect Ave., officers responded to a radio call of a road rage incident in the area of N. Prospect Avenue and Beryl Street.  According to a release, officers arrived and contacted a victim.  The victim told officers that her vehicle was intentionally rear-ended three times by a female suspect driving another vehicle.  The female suspect yelled obscenities at the victim and fled.  The victim provided a description to officers.  About a half hour later, officers observed a vehicle, matching the description, traveling south on Blossom Lane towards 190th Street.  The officers made a routine traffic stop and contacted a 15-year-old male driver and an intoxicated adult female seated in the right front passenger seat.  The passenger was positively identified as the driver in the road rage incident.  The right front passenger was placed under arrest for assault, child endangerment, and DUI.   

 

Jewelry theft, leg stabbing

At about 4:45 p.m on Dec. 13 on the 100 block Via Valencia., officers were dispatched to an assault.  According to police, the officers arrived and contacted a male victim.  The victim told the officers that he is a jeweler who had just entered his car when he was approached by two suspects.  The suspects smashed the car windows and produced a knife directing the victim not to move.  The suspects removed a bag, containing jewelry of significant value, from the victim.  The victim tried to kick the suspect with the knife and was stabbed in the lower leg.  Both suspects ran to a waiting vehicle and fled the area.  Officers were unable to locate the suspects and an investigation is continuing.

 

Storage burglary

At about 10:15 a.m on Dec. 15 at 811 N. Catalina Ave., officers were dispatched to Redondo Hermosa Mini Storage for a burglary report.  According to a press release, officers learned that sometime between the morning hours of December 13, 2011 and the afternoon hours of December 14, 2011 unknown person(s) forced entry into 16 storage units and removed property.

At about 8:30 a.m. on Dec. 18 at2515 Artesia Blvd#C officers were dispatched to a burglary call at Al-Hamra Hala Kabob Restaurant.  According to police, the officers arrived and spoke with the owner.  The officers learned that the owner arrived at his store and discovered that the front door had been pried open.  He immediately called the police and secured the doors.  The owner observed that his restaurant had been ransacked and that cash had been removed from the cash register. 

 

Prescription not for driving

At about 10:30 a.m. on Dec. 18 at the 800 Block Esplanade a male subject, under the influence of prescription medication and using a cell phone, was traveling north on the Esplanade when he veered into the southbound lane of traffic.  According to a release, the subject struck a parked vehicle along the west side of the street and continued through the garage door of a residence.  Officers arrived on scene and contacted the driver.  Officers determined that the collision caused structural damage to the garage and severed the residence’s gas and power lines.  Several containers of chemicals in the residential garage had been damaged by the collision.  Redondo Beach Fire Department personnel arrived to assist with treatment of injuries and to address hazardous material concerns.  The driver of the vehicle was treated at a nearby hospital and eventually booked at the Redondo Beach Police Department jail for DUI
