Host Redondo captures silver championship

Using a tenacious defense and balanced offensive attack, Redondo rebounded from an 11-point first quarter deficit to defeat Inglewood 64-46, capturing the Silver Bracket title in the Battle at the Beach girls basketball tournament.

Shayna Stuart recorded a game-high 17 points and Michelle Lowery, Riki Murakami and Annie Park each added 12 points each for the Sea Hawks who improved their record at 6-3 and moved into the No. 10 spot in the CIF Division 1AA rankings. Inglewood is ranked third in Division 2AA.

Coach Marcelo Enriquez’s squad reached the Silver final after beating Beverly Hills (No. 3, Div. 2A) 36-32 behind Lowery’s 10 points.

After defeating Santa Fe 52-39, Redondo was knocked out of the Gold Bracket with a 38-35 loss to Serra (No. 1, Div. 3AA), despite Lowery’s eight-point, 10-rebound performance.

Santa Monica (No. 6, Div. 1AA) defeated Bishop Montgomery (No. 1, Div. 4AA) 62-54 to win the Gold Bracket championship while West Torrance (No. 10, Div. 3AA) throttled Santa Fe 51-28 to capture the Bronze division.

Other local girls basketball teams ranked in the CIF polls include North Torrance (No. 8, Div. 3AA), South Torrance (No. 14, Div. 3AA), Palos Verdes (No. 5, Div. 3A), El Segundo (No. 7, Div. 4A) and Chadwick (No. 2, Div. 5A). ER
