Skateboarders to take the Redondo Pier

The second annual King of the Pier Skateboard Contest is taking place this weekend, Saturday, Sept. 29, at the Redondo Beach Pier, sponsored by the Redondo Beach Police Department.
Last year’s contest had more than 100 skaters at the Octagon by the Redondo Beach Pier, and organizers are hoping for a similar turnout. A temporary mini-skate park was built, and saw skaters – including Chief of Police Keith Kauffman – take to the ramps and rails.
An open Free Skate Jam will run from 11 to 11:30 a.m.; the competition will begin at 11:30 a.m and run to 2:30 p.m., followed by awards. Participants are required to wear helmets with working chinstraps; gloves and pads, however, are optional.
All participants will receive a t-shirt, and a raffle will be on hand.
