General Plan survey

deadline extended

The Redondo Beach General Plan Advisory Committee has extended its deadline to take a General Plan Land Use Survey until Jan. 17 to allow for expanded resident participation.

To date, the survey has had more than 150 responses, though the organizers would prefer to have more than double that, and encourage users to spread the word to friends and neighbors alike.

The survey walks through the opportunities and issues that have informed the options considered by the GPAC. Resident input is needed to refine what changes the committee would recommend to Redondo Beach’s Land Use Plan.

Respondents are not required to answer all questions and may skip ahead to comment on the areas they are most interested in.

Kids shoot hoops

The Elks Lodge is inviting boys and girls ages 8 to 13 to shoot hoops at Parras Middle School on Saturday, Jan. 5 for the chance to move on to district, state, and national competitions.

The Elks Hoop Shoot free-throw shooting contest will eventually lead to a national final competition in Chicago this April, and a plaque at the National Basketball Hall of Fame. The contest is part of the Elks’ effort to instill resolve and character in children.

Registration opens at 9:30 a.m., warm-up starts at 10 a.m., and the competition begins at 11 a.m. Top shooters in each age division will advance to the district contest on Saturday, Jan. 12, at Shoot 360 in Torrance. Contestants are required to provide proof of age.

Super Bowl run

registration open

Registration is open for the 41st Annual Redondo Beach Super Bowl 10K/5K run, on Feb. 3, organized by the Redondo Beach Chamber of Commerce.

All runners, whether participating in the 5K, 10K or Baby Buggy 10K, will receive participation T-shirts, and participants are encouraged to come out in their finest costumes for the annual Costume Contest for prizes.

All are also welcome to participate in a two-day health and fitness expo, presented by Kaiser Permanente, featuring food, beverages and running gear, including a booth from Village Runner.

Finishers will be welcomed at a “hospitality zone” at Seaside Lagoon after the race, where they’ll be invited to share a beer with their fellow runners.
