Redondo Beach About Town

This week’s 2019 Santa Sleigh Schedule

The Redondo Beach Police Officers Association Santa Sleigh — an annual tradition in which police escort Santa Claus around Redondo Beach neighborhoods — has started on its tour of the city, beginning on Dec. 2. According to RBPOA, this is a chance for residents to come out of their homes, meet their neighbors, take a picture with Santa and give the police an opportunity to thank residents for their support.
The sleigh will leave the Redondo Beach police station at 5 p.m. for its planned route — all residents have to do is listen for the sirens and Santa crying out with a “ho ho ho!” Santa and his police escorts will stop mid-block and won’t leave until everyone has had a chance to meet Saint Nicholas.

RBPOA’s planned routes are often complex, trying to cover as much ground as possible in a winding way, so we’ll present the start and endpoints for each day, as best we can, between Dec. 5, and Dec. 11.

Thursday, Dec. 5 – Start: Curtis Ave. and Aviation Blvd.; End: Perkins Lane and Robinson St.

Friday, Dec. 6 – Start: Aviation Blvd. and Matthews Ave.; End: Aviation Blvd. and Voorhees Ave.

Saturday, Dec. 7 – Start: Ruxton Lane and Rockefeller Lane; End: Vanderbilt Lane and Aviation Way.

Sunday, Dec. 8 – Start: Clark Lane and Harkness Lane; End: Huntington Lane and Ripley Ave.

Monday, Dec. 9 – Start: Flagler Lane and Armour Lane, end at Belmont Lane and Harkness Lane.

Tuesday, Dec. 10: Start at Harper Ave. and Palm Lane to Artesia Blvd., then back and forth on Steinhart, Goodman, Stanford, Ford, Reed, Herrin, Carver, Wollacott and Axenty.

Wednesday, Dec. 11: Start at 190th Street and Pruitt Drive; End: 182nd Street and Inglewood Ave.

Riviera Village Holiday Stroll

The annual Riviera Village Holiday Stroll — which is “so much more than Village-wide open house!” — will take place on Thursday, Dec. 5, from 5 p.m. to 9 p.m. The streets will be closed to vehicle traffic, and storefronts will be decorated appropriately for the celebration.

The holiday parade, featuring floats, carriages, and music, begins at 6 p.m, and will travel from Avenue I and S. Elena Ave., go south on Catalina Ave., and finish at Catalina Ave. and S. Elena Ave.
