Redondo Beach Police Beat

Grand Theft

On Oct. 28, at 12:55 p.m., a Redondo Beach police officer on patrol on the 2500 block of Robinson Street spotted a known suspect from a previous grand theft report. In that report, the suspect had stolen property valued at approximately $4,800 from a vehicle. A second officer had previously reviewed video surveillance of the crime and recognized the suspect. The suspect was subsequently arrested without incident.

Petty Theft

On Oct. 28, at about 7.51 a.m., an officer was flagged down by a victim along the 1800 block of S. Pacific Coast Highway. The man told police that his bicycle was just stolen from the location, and gave a complete description of the bike. The officer checked the area and found a suspect with the victim’s bicycle in the parking lot of a nearby business. The victim identified the suspect as the person who he observed taking his bicycle, but did not want the suspect arrested for the crime. The property was returned to the victim.

Violation of Court Order

At 2:32 a.m. on Oct. 28 at City Hall, officers contacted a person for sleeping and blocking the south sidewalk of the police station. The person allegedly has a court order requiring they stay away from the Police Department and City Hall and was placed under arrest.

Residential Burglary

On Nov. 1, at 12:45 p.m., a burglary victim along the 2600 block of Huntington Lane told police that his home was tented for fumigation from Oct. 29 to Oct. 31. The resident reviewed footage from his video camera after receiving several motion sensor activations and found that at about 1:30 p.m. on Oct. 29, two people could be seen removing several items from within the home, including two firearms. The footage was provided to the Police Department for follow-up investigation.

DUI Hit and Run

On Nov. 1, at 10:49 p.m., a motorist near the intersection of Vail and Mathews avenues watched as a driver struck a parked vehicle then fled the scene. The witness followed the vehicle and eventually blocked it with his own vehicle after it parked several blocks away. Police said the driver displayed objective symptoms of alcohol intoxication and, following a investigation for driving under the influence, was placed under arrest on suspicion of DUI and hit and run.

Possession of Narcotics for Sale

On Nov. 2, at 1:35 a.m., an officer stopped a vehicle near Space Park Drive and Redondo Beach Avenue for not having a front license plate. Police said the driver was found to be in possession of prescription pills without a prescription and placed under arrest. Upon arrival at the jail, he was found in possession of cocaine in a quantity and manner consistent with sales rather than personal use, police said.
