Redondo hosts its Preseason Varsity Invitational on Friday and Saturday with a number of high-ranking teams competing for the championship.

Along with the Sea Hawks, the tournament features Mater Dei, Tesoro, Newbury Park, South Torrance, Servite, Lakewood and Thousand Oaks.

All but Thousand Oaks competed in the 2018 CIF-Southern Section playoffs.

Redondo head coach Kevin Norman expects a competitive tournament which will provide valuable experience for his team that is led by college recruits outside hitter Inaki Bustamante (Lewis), outside hitter Sebastian Rodriguez (Long Beach State) and middle blocker Gabriel Miranda (Stanford).

“We are so excited to have such an incredible opportunity this season,” Norman said. “This group is incredibly talented, hard working, competitive and intelligent student athletes, as our program wide average GPA is 3.6 with eight varsity players at a 4.0 or better.”
