Redondo girls basketball team hosts West in Battle at the Beach tournament opener

Redondo will host its second basketball tournament in two weeks when the girls hit the hardwood for the Battle at the Beach tournament beginning Monday with the finals set for Saturday, Nov. 24.

Redondo is in the 12-team Platinum Division and opens with West Torrance at 7:30 p.m. on Monday. Redondo will finish its Pool C schedule playing Cathedral Catholic on Wednesday at 6 p.m.

Other teams in the Platinum Division include: Pool A – Windward, Harvard-Westlake, Valencia; Pool B – Etiwanda, Serra, Narbonne; Pool D – Bishop Montgomery, Lynwood, Chaminade.

Gold Division competitors include: Pool A – JSerra, North Torrance, Fairfax, St. Bernards; Pool B – Legacy, Palos Verdes, El Segundo, Crenshaw.

Both Redondo and West are coming off CIF Southern Section championship seasons when Redondo won the 2AA division and West captured the Division 1 title.

Redondo’s squad finished with a 31-5 record after winning the CIF State Division 2 crown. Sophomore Alyssa Munn was named Player of the Year in Division 2AA while Redondo head coach Marcelo Enriquez earned Coach of the Year honors. Junior Dylan Horton was selected to the All-CIF Division 2AA first team.

West enjoyed the same honors with senior Haley Jones named Player of the Year, Riki Murakami as Coach of the Year and senior Katie Timmerman making the Division 1 team.

Redondo returns most of its starters led by junior point guard Alyssa Munn, senior wingman Dylan Horton, junior guard Anna Johnson, sophomore wingman Calli Stokes, junior strong forward Lauren Chao, senior guard Kennedy Jackson and junior guard Mega Ngo.
