Redondo Union saw its football season come to an end in Valencia Friday night, but the scrappy Sea Hawks did not go down without a fight.

Redondo, which had earned an at-large berth in the CIF Southern Section Northern Division playoffs, stayed right with second-seeded Valencia for most of the first three quarters before the Vikings went on a 17-3 run to defeat the Sea Hawks 38-17.

In the first quarter, Redondo’s defense recorded four sacks and kept Valencia’s offense off balance.

Redondo tied the score 7-7 in the second quarter when senior quarterback Harrison Faecher threw a 47-yard touchdown pass.

Later in the half, Redondo fumbled a punt that was recovered by Valencia at the Sea Hawk’s 4-yard line. Jay Jay Wilson scored on a 4-yard run and his 6-yard touchdown run to open the second half put the Vikings up 21-7.

Redondo pulled to within 21-14 with 4:33 left in the third quarter when Faecher hit Colin Hindle for a 16-yard touchdown on a fake field goal.

Valencia quarterback Jake Wallace got hot, throwing touchdown passes of 39 and 85 yards. Wallace finished the game going 18-of-30 for 348 yards and two touchdown passes. He also ran for a score.

Redondo could not find its rhythm on offense, rushing for only 125 yards on 33 attempts.

Faecher, who has been the Sea Hawks starting quarterback for three seasons, was 14-of-36 for 216 yards.

Valencia (9-2) advances to play at No. 9 Arroyo Grande, a 40-0 winner over Quartz Hill.

Palos Verdes, West Torrance advance

Bay League and defending Northern Division champion Palos Verdes routed Righetti 63-16 in its opening-round game.

The top-seeded Sea Kings (9-2) will play No. 5 Hart (9-2) at College of the Canyons on Friday.

West Torrance (9-2) defeated No. 6 Canyon of Canyon Country 35-28 on the road and will host No. 4 Palmdale (9-2) in the quarterfinals.

In the Northwest Division, Pioneer League champion and fourth-seeded El Segundo (8-3) eliminated Santa Paula (35-28) and will travel to take on No. 7 Carpinteria (8-3).

Torrance (5-6) upset No. 8 Azusa 42-20 on the road and will host second-seeded Nordhoff (10-1).

Pioner runner-up North Torrance (6-5) was blanked by third-seeded Bishop Diego 34-0 and Bishop Montgomery (6-5) was no match for top-seeded Oak Park, falling to the Eagles 42-13.

In the Northeast Division, Chadwick (7-4) was routed by third-seeded Salesian (9-2) 62-16.
