Redondo captures boys golf title
Redondo won its first league title since the 1990s when the Sea Hawks defeated Peninsula 188-202 and Mira Costa helped its rival out by defeating South for the second time last week, outshooting the Spartans 183-187.
Ryann Ree shot a 4-under-par 32 at Los Verdes Golf Course to lead Redondo (11-2, 10-2). Kenny Cole and Lawrence Ree each shot a 36 while Matthew Ferradas and Ray Malazo shot 42s.
Mira Costa (15-4, 9-3) finished in a second-place tie with South (12-3, 9-3) after David Kim led the Mustangs with a 1-over-par 35 at Chester Washington Golf Course. Kyle Cohen shot a 36, CJ Coleman and Lorenzo Gillenwater shot 37s and James Houston and Evan Westerburg each shot a 38 for the Mustangs.
Redondo, Mira Costa and South represented the Bay League in the Central Team Divisional tournament Monday at Lakewood Golf Course where Loyola won with a score of 374 beating runner-up Mira Costa (377) and third-place Redondo (379). South (389) finished in sixth place.
Kim led Mira Costa shooting a 1-under-par 71 while teammates Bryce Holmes (75), Coleman (77), Gillenwater (77) and Houston (77) helped the Mustangs advance.
Redondo’s Lawrence Ree shot a 70 to lead the Sea Hawks who were helped by Ryan Ree (71), Malazo (77) and Michael D’Angelo (78).
Mira Costa and Redondo advance to the CIF Southern Section Team Championship Tournament to be held Thursday at Rancho San Marcos Golf Course in Santa Barbara beginning at 8 a.m.
In the Bay League Individual Championships, South junior Robin Kang won his second consecutive league title shooting a 141 to defeat Ree (142), Kim (143) and South’s Tai Kuida (143) who qualified for the CIF Southern Individual Regionals to be held Monday, May 14 at Skylinks Golf Club in Long Beach.
Coleman (Mira Costa) and D’Angelo (Redondo) also qualified for the Individual Regionals. The CIF Southern Section Individual Championship Tournament will take place Monday, May 21 at Victoria Country Club in Riverside beginning at 8 a.m.
