About 500 people turned out to Veteran’s Park to commemorate Memorial Day on Monday afternoon. Assemblyman Al Muratsuchi was the keynote speaker for the event, which Lt. Col. Tom Lasser (retired) emceed. Bea Cohen, the 102-year-old “real-life Rosie the Riveter,” received the colors, and Sky Fox 11 meteorologist and broadcaster Rick Dickert, of Redondo Beach, recited the pledge of allegiance. In attendance were Congressman Henry Waxman, Senator Ted Lieu, Mayor Mike Gin and incoming mayor Steve Aspel, plus scores of veterans. There was a presentation to the family of Chief Petty Officer Terrell Horne of the U.S. Coast Guard; Redondo Union High School Band and Los Angeles Police Emerald Society Pipes and Band provided music; and the Redondo Beach Elks provided a post-ceremony barbecue.
