The death of a man found early Saturday lying on Hermosa Avenue, at 16th Street, remains under investigation. Authorities have corrected early information that the incident was a homicide.

According to a statement from Hermosa Beach city officials, officers responding to a report found the man semi-conscious. He died en route to a local hospital.

His cause of death is “unknown,” according to officials. The Los Angeles Coroner’s Office will conduct an investigation into the cause of the man’s death, which has been termed “suspicious.”

Hermosa Beach Police Chief Paul LeBaron said that report needs to be completed “before we are able to move forward, because we still don’t know if a crime has occurred.” ER
