With the first round of Bay League competition concluding next week, Mira Costa’s girls soccer team will be aiming to put itself in the driver’s seat in the race for a league crown when the Mustangs host Palos Verdes Tuesday in a crucial match.

Mira Costa (11-2-3, 3-0), however, can ill afford to overlook its next opponent. Mira Costa hosts Peninsula Friday before its showdown with Palos Verdes (15-2-2, 3-0). Both games are scheduled to start at 3 p.m. Palos Verdes is ranked No. 1 in the CIF Southern Section Division 2 poll and defeated Peninsula 4-1 on Tuesday.

The Mustangs throttled Leuzinger 6-1 Tuesday to remain undefeated in league play. Kara Enomoto scored three goals and Mandy McKeegan scored twice to lead the Mustangs.

Coach Patty Perkinson’s Mira Costa squad knocked off rival Redondo 3-1 last Friday behind goals by Kendall Richter, Kimberly Keever and Enomoto.

Redondo (6-6-3, 0-2-1) looks to get back on the winning track after tying West (5-7-4, 0-2-1) 1-1 on Tuesday. Sea Hawk Katrina Cohen opened the scoring with a goal in 13th minute.
