CHRISTMAS TREE RECYCLING
Holiday Tree and Light Recycling. Free at the curb between December 26 and January 17, 2015, residents may place holiday trees next to their carts on their regular collection date for free pick up and recycling. Trees will only be collected on a resident’s regular collection day. Trees must be placed at the curb by 7 a.m. on collection day. For inquiries regarding Waste Management services, contact their customer service department at (310) 830-7100.

BALLET
Los Angeles Ballet’s celebrated original production of The Nutcracker returns! Join Uncle Drosselmeyer, Clara and her beloved Nutcracker as they battle the Mouse King and his army, journey to the Land of Snow, and to the enchanted Palace of the Dolls where Clara’s favorite doll companions come to life. Meet Santa in the lobby during intermission! Weekend Concert at Fisherman’s Village. 1 p.m. Live, outdoor concerts are held every weekend in the plaza of Fisherman’s Village. HIKING
Conditioning Hike in Rancho Palos Verdes. Slow Moderate 2 hr, 4-6 Mile Hike. Not for beginners. Leave 6:30 p.m. from end of Crenshaw, Del Cerro Park, 2 Park Place, Rancho Palos Verdes. Hike the trails of Portuguese Bend Preserve, Upper Filiorum, and some streets. Some steep trails. Only one group. Wear sturdy shoes or lug sole boots and bring a red lens flash light. Rain cancels. CELEBRATION
Hermosa Beach New Year’s Eve Celebration featuring Lou Giovannetti and His Big Band. Two countdowns to the New Year on a 9×12 foot video screen. The first countdown at 9 p.m. live from Times Square in New York City. The second countdown takes place through a video replay at midnight local time as Hermosa Beach rings in the New Year with the West Coast. NEW YEAR’S EVE BASH
Shade Hotel will channel the Roaring Twenties at a Great Gatsby-inspired New Year’s Eve bash. The event will feature a live DJ, burlesque dancers, gaming tables for craps, roulette, blackjack and poker, tray-passed hors d’oeuvres created by Executive Chef Chris Garasic, a full dessert bar with candies, cupcakes and other sweets, a raffle, and a champagne toast at the stroke of midnight. Christmas Eve Candlelight worship at First United Methodist Church at 4 p.m. and 11 p.m.
Both services, we will experience the story of Christmas in songs and scripture readings; we will offer prayers and share candlelight as we sing “Silent Night.” At 4 p.m., our worship is especially family-friendly, and we welcome children in our worship.
