Holiday Tree and Light Recycling. Free at the curb between December 26 and January 17, 2015, residents may place holiday trees next to their carts on their regular collection date for free pick up and recycling. Trees will only be collected on a resident’s regular collection day. Trees must be placed at the curb by 7 a.m. on collection day. Conditioning Hike in Rancho Palos Verdes. Slow Moderate 2 hr, 4-6 Mile Hike. Not for beginners. Leave 6:30 p.m. from end of Crenshaw, Del Cerro Park, 2 Park Place, Rancho Palos Verdes. Hike the trails of Portuguese Bend Preserve, Upper Filiorum, and some streets. Some steep trails. Only one group. Wear sturdy shoes or lug sole boots and bring a red lens flash light. Rain cancels. Hermosa Beach New Year’s Eve Celebration featuring Lou Giovannetti and His Big Band. Two countdowns to the New Year on a 9×12 foot video screen. The first countdown at 9 p.m. live from Times Square in New York City. The second countdown takes place through a video replay at midnight local time as Hermosa Beach rings in the New Year with the West Coast. Shade Hotel will channel the Roaring Twenties at a Great Gatsby-inspired New Year’s Eve bash.
