Police are searching for a man who has reportedly been stalking two young girls and has on at least one occasion exposed himself to a 14-year-old as she walked along a street earlier this month.
According to police reports, during the first two weeks of November the man made several attempts to talk to two specific girls. Beginning on Nov. 1, he followed a 14-year-old girl in his vehicle or attempted to speak with her on three different days on N. Paulina Street, Beryl Street and Amethyst Street.
On Nov. 4, he got out of his vehicle and exposed himself to the girl.
Redondo Beach Police Department Sgt. Phil Keenan said that the man is exhibiting predatory behavior.
“I mean, he is really fixated,” Keenan said. “He comes back time and time again. Some of these kind of guys strike like lightning, but this guy seems very fixated on a particular victim, and that is very worrisome.”
“He’s more than just a stalker and he’s more than just a flasher,” Keenan added. “Because those types just want to get people to acknowledge them and just want people to see them with no clothes on – that is where they get their sexual satisfaction. The fact that this guy chased after this girl puts him in a whole different category.”
On Nov. 10, the man was seen driving in an area where children were playing on the 500 block of Avenue G. The next day, he allegedly returned to the area and pulled his vehicle – an older model silver or gray four-door sedan – alongside an 11-year-old. He tried to engage her in conversation, and when he got out of his car, she ran off.
Witnesses said the man was fidgeting and shaking a lot when talking to the victims. Most of the incidents occurred late in the afternoon, police said. The man was described as Hispanic between the ages of 30 and 40, 5-feet-9, with a “fat belly and double chin,” unshaven with a mustache, dark hair grown out “buzz style,” and two red bumps on each side of his face.
Keenan suggested parents warn their children.
“What they need to do is talk to kids in an age appropriate manner, show them this picture in the newspaper, and have kids aware of it,” Keenan said. “And if anybody approaches them, have a protocol – if anything happens, tell an adult immediately, and stay in groups of two or more when playing. This guy is obviously fixated on young, female children, so when they are out there by themselves, they are more vulnerable than when they are with other kids.”
