You can count on South Bay’s premiere venues to provide a colorful array of musical acts this summer, spanning across genres and spotlighting both local and national talent. On May 16, The Lighthouse is hosting Costapalooza, a fundraiser featuring five bands whose members are Mira Costa alumni. The lineup includes alternative-indie-rock band Latch Key Kid (class of 1995), country singer Chloe Caroline (class of 2012), musician Kira Lingman (class of 2005), hard rock band Lose Control (class of 2005) and singer-songwriter Connor Caine (class of 2012). Suggested donation is $20, benefiting the Costa Alumni Association.

Throughout Memorial Day Weekend, the Lighthouse is hosting live music all day with drink specials, featuring L.A.-based jazz pianist and composer Kait Dunton, South Bay-native rock cover band Angry Donkey and more.

Plus, open mic and Latin Monday nights, Country Tuesday nights (with line dancing instruction), Jazz and Reggae Wednesday nights and Karaoke Thursdays will continue through the summer. On Sundays, brunch is accompanied by live jazz, lunch by reggae and night caps by R&B and hip hop.

At Saint Rocke, noteworthy summer shows include South Bay-native reggae group Fortunate Youth on May 15; New Zealand-based roots reggae trio House of Shem on June 17; Wild Child, a Doors cover band, on June 27; and dueling piano featuring Jeff Vince on June 25 and July 23. Open mics are on Tuesday nights, paired with dollar tacos.

For an intricate, first-class guitar performance, don’t miss the June 14 performance at Comedy and Magic Club’s Live at the Lounge. It will feature Carl Veheyen, a renowned career session guitarist whose rap sheet includes work with the Bee Gees and Cher. He’s also a guitarist for the English rock group Supertramp.
