Billed as a “Mother & Daughter Celebration,” “Art That Inspires” highlights the colorful work of painters Jeanne Zaske (birds, flowers, still lifes) and her daughter Lynnie Sterba (swirling abstracts). The closing reception (6 to 8 p.m. on May 31) features a talk by the artists.

Senator Allen Student Photo Contest
“Our California, our Community,” is the theme of State Senator Ben Allen’s photo contest for middle school and high school students living within Senate District 24 (South Bay through Santa Monica). Entries will be judged on how well they reflect the contest’s theme. One entry per photographer. Winning photos will be exhibited at the State Capital in Sacramento. Deadline: Friday, May 31.
