The 3rd Annual Los Angeles Flamenco Festival came and went this weekend at the Redondo Beach Performing Arts Center, attracting robust crowds Saturday and Sunday evening with performances by, among others, superstar guitarist Vicente Amigo and  dancers Nino de los Reyes and Carola Zertuche.

“It was an honor to present the best of the best artists both from Spain and the U.S. in the 2012 Los Angeles International Flamenco Festival,”  said festival founder and promoter Mitch Chang. “It was only the second Los Angeles appearance for Vicente Amigo in 10 years.”

Amigo attracted a near-sold out audience on Saturday night, and  Chang — a guitarist himself — said hosting the legendary guitarist in Redondo Beach for nearly a week was one of his most rewarding experiences as a promoter.

“I’ve enjoyed The Maestro’s music for a long time now – he’s been one of my all-time favorite musicians from the very first time I heard him,” Chang said. “I never imagined I’d have the opportunity to work with him much less become friends with this man whose music has had such a profound impact on my life.”
