The Most Anticipated TV Shows of This Summer

Brighten your summer with these most-anticipated TV shows! Detectives, romcoms, period dramas, and horror movies — everyone will find something to their taste! This may be a great time to get in touch with your cable tv provider to ensure you have access to the channels and programs you are looking forward to this summer.

Generally, in the world of movies, summer is the time for blockbusters, with a lot of action and special effects that keep you bound to your chair in the cinema.

However, we live in the streaming era, and they slowly overtake our attention. We love to watch how characters travel through the seasons and change, and a two-hour movie just doesn’t offer us the closure we need.

Streaming services see our longing for the deep character and layered stories, and they don’t disappoint us with the dead silence during the summer months.

Below, you will find the most-anticipated TV shows of this summer, and maybe find something for yourself!

June

Sweet Tooth (June 4, Netflix)

Seems like the scenarists should have known better: who would watch another post-apocalyptic show about humanity that tries to recover from a deadly virus, after an 18-month pandemic?

However, seems like Sweet Tooth has a unique appeal. It’s an adaptation of a comic series created by Jeff Lemire about animal-human hybrids that try to build a new civilization.

The last survived men, however, have other plans.

Netflix invites you to watch an adventure of small hybrid boy Gus and one of the Hunters? Will they become friends? Or will Gus be just another mark on a hitting list? Tune in on June 4 and find out!

Loki (June 9, Disney+)

Marvel Cinematic Universe is probably the biggest cultural phenomenon of our times and, having caught our attention with a load of Avenger movies, it slowly transfers into TV shows. We already traveled with intriguing and funny WandaVision sitcom and enjoyed the Falcon and the Winter Soldier.

Loki continues the series of spin-offs and features our all-time favorite trickster, played by Tom Hiddleston. However, tricksters in the MCU don’t remain unnoticed, and now the Norse God is placed into a Time Variance Authority facility to restore the proper flow of time and clean everything he messed up.

Will Loki submit to the authorities, or will he end up being… you know, Loki? Anyway, it’s a promising spin-off, and we’re never tired to look at Tom Hiddleston’s performance.

July

Wellington Paranormal (July 11, the CW and HBO Max)

If you fell in love with Taika Waititi’s vampire mockumentary, What We Do In The Shadows, hold on to your hats: the 2018 spin-off about two cops who investigate paranormal crimes, is about to hit the US this July! Join officer Kyle Minogue and officer O’Leary in uncovering secret mysteries, helping werewolves, and preventing ancient demons from opening a portal to hell in the fountain. All with the signature Taika Waititi’s humor and parody atmosphere!

Ted Lasso (July 23, Apple TV)

Are you frantically trying to order essay paper for an upcoming deadline? Well, you either have incredibly poor time management skills, or you’re playing on the university sports team. If you choose the latter, then you probably know about Ted Lasso, a charismatic soccer coach that treats his team like human beings, who are capable of failure. The series that teaches you a subtle life philosophy and doesn’t judge your poor decisions was positively met by the public last year and now makes its comeback for another season. If you missed Ted’s special biscuits, don’t worry: you will soon feel their smell.

August

Brooklyn Nine-Nine (August 12, NBC)

All good things come to an end, and the eighth season of the show about officers of the Brooklyn police department will be the last. Aside from watching all the characters get their closure, it’s worth pointing out that the last season of the show will also be the only season aired after the biggest Black Lives Matter protest in US history.

This event drew sharp attention to a representation of cops in the media and launched a lot of campaigns directed at raising awareness about institutional racism and the importance of critical race studies. Both of which are great messages to implement in the plot, given the fact that the cast of the series is pretty diverse.

Nine Perfect Strangers (August 18, Hulu)

Another spin on the ‘cult in the woods’ theme, and the adaptation of another Liane Moriarty’s novel? We take both, and sprinkle it with an exceptional cast starring Nicole Kidman, Michael Shannon, Samara Weaving, Regina Hall, and others! Nine strangers visit a community designed for healing and retreat, in a quiet place in the woods. And, as soon as they settle, something weird starts to creep in.

Will you battle it and stay true to yourself, or will you let it overtake your mind? Suddenly, a tranquil house in the woods doesn’t seem so peaceful anymore…
