Tour de Pier
The fourth annual Tour de Pier fundraiser event will take place on May 15 from 8:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. at the Manhattan Beach Pier. Money raised will go to the Hirshberg Foundation for Pancreatic Cancer Research, the Cancer Support Community Redondo Beach and the Uncle Kory Foundation.

Opera at the library
The LA Opera will present an opera performance at the Manhattan Beach library on May 7 from 11 a.m. to noon. The show will feature professional opera singers performing musical moments from the Figaro opera trilogy The Barber of Seville, The Marriage of Figaro, and The Ghosts of Versailles. Free garden bug class
The Manhattan Beach Botanical Garden is offering a free class on bugs on May 7 from 10 to 11 a.m. Gretchen Renshaw of UCLA will teach how to identify “good” bugs which might turn into butterflies or attract birds and what to do about “bad” bugs. Participants can bring insects in sealed plastic bags to be identified. Children are welcome.
