New tech parking meters to be installed
A full transition from coin-only and cash-key parking meters to new technology meters is expected by the end of November. The new meters, which accept credit and debit cards as well as coins, could also have a “pay by cell” option for registered users.
The city began its transition in 2010 at the pier parking lots and eventually onto all on-street parking meters. The last of them will be installed in City parking lots and structures. Those who have remaining credit balances on their cash keys or would like a full refund of the deposit made at that time they purchased the cash key must return it to the City Hall cashier between 8 a.m. and 5 p.m. Monday to Friday. Deep Roots Garden Fall Festival
Deep Roots Garden Center is hosting a fall festival this Saturday and Sunday from noon to 4 p.m. The family-friendly event will have arts and crafts, a scarecrow-making station (bring your own clothes), family photo booth, pumpkins and more. City Annual Halloween Carnival
The city’s Parks and Recreation Department will host its 26th annual family halloween carnival this Saturday from 1 to 4 p.m. at Manhattan Heights Park. The event under the age 5 must be accompanied by an adult at all times. Past carnivals have included face painting, haunted house, food and game booths. Costume parade and contest begins at 1 p.m.
