New tech parking meters to be installed

A full transition from coin-only and cash-key parking meters to new technology meters is expected by the end of November. The new meters, which accept credit and debit cards as well as coins, could also have a “pay by cell” option for registered users.

The city began its transition in 2010 at the pier parking lots and eventually onto all on-street parking meters. The last of them will be installed in City parking lots and structures. Those who have remaining credit balances on their cash keys or would like a full refund of the deposit made at that time they purchased the cash key must return it to the City Hall cashier between 8 a.m. and 5 p.m. Monday to Friday. The city ill process and mail a refund check. For more information, call the City Hall cashier at 310-802-5557.
