America’s Assembly at Robinson Elementary
Students, teachers and community members will gather at Robinson Elementary flag poles Wednesday, Sep. 11, from 8:45 to 9:15 a.m. for the annual America’s Assembly, a ceremony that honors the remembrance of Sep. 11, 2001 and esteemed community veterans who have served the United States.
The program will include color guard raising of the flag with the assistance of our veterans, brief student speeches and musical performances by Robinson parent and grandfather. Community veterans, city officials, school board members as well as police and fire department officials are expected to attend.

Manhattan Village will hold more open houses to solicit public input and answer questions about the proposed enhancement project. The open houses will be held at the mall’s center court on the following dates: Saturday, Sep. 7, from 2 to 4 p.m.; Monday, Sep. 9, from 4 to 6 p.m.; Friday, Sep. 13, from noon to 2 p.m., and Saturday, Sep. 14, from noon to 4 p.m.
“We want to make sure the public has a good sense of what we are proposing and why,” Manhattan Village general manager Liz Griggs said. “This is a great opportunity for anyone who wants to know more about the project so they can see first-hand all the improvements we hope to make and ask questions.”
At each open house, shoppers and community members will have the opportunity to see renderings, site plans and a model of the proposed project. Manhattan Village representatives will be on-hand to answer questions.

Tip-a-Cop for the Special Olympics
The annual “Tip-a-Cop” event at Tin Roof Bistro in Manhattan Beach will take place Thursday, Sep. 19 from 5 to 9 p.m. Officers and personnel from the Manhattan Beach Police Department donate time for one evening to wait tables at the restaurant. All tips and donations collected that evening will benefit local Special Olympic athletes. Last year, the event raised nearly $30,000.
“For many years, law enforcement and Special Olympics have enjoyed a wonderful partnership,” MBPD Chief Eve Irvine said in a statement. “This is our way of going above and beyond that relationship by helping to raise public awareness and money for this amazing organization and the incredible athletes who participate.”
All tips are a tax-deductible donation to Special Olympics, which provides athletic training and competition for children and adults with intellectual disabilities in the South Bay Area.
