Patrick Sweeney, of Manhattan Beach, ran 87.36 miles in the soft sand to become the Guinness World Records© holder for Greatest Distance Run On Sand in 24 Hours. The Mira Costa alum broke friend and Hermosa 24 race director Christian Burke’s record set during the 2010 Labor Day weekend.
