A dozen micro groms (9 and under) competed in the South Bay Boardriders surfing contest Saturday at 45th Street in Manhattan Beach. Eric Nakaji’s Surf Concept sponsored the contest, the fourth in the five contest series. Shane Mosley claimed his third micro grom first place, giving him a narrow points lead over Kieren Walls. Moms and dads pushed the kids into inside waves during the contests, which are designed to help fulfill the club’s goal of encouraging young kids to surf. This year’s final South Bay Surfclub Series Contest is May 21 at the Manhattan Pier.
