Racing into Brothers Burritos for a jet fuel (coffee) pickup for me and my surf coach Mike Siordia, I spotted Hudson Ritchie, amazing longboarder who just won a huge surf event at Noosa in Australia a few weeks ago. I said hello to Hudson, who I don’t know very well but I do know that I love watching him surf, and sped off to pick up Siordia, destined for a manic Malibu Monday.
Waiting in my car for Siordia outside his house, I look over to my left and in a big green truck see Hudson staring right at me. Confused, I said, “Hey, where are you going?” “Malibu!” “Wait I’m going to Malibu too?!” “I know, I’m going with you.”
The car ride of endless laughs landed us at the iconic Bu, where anyone who was anyone in surfing seemed to be there. Carla and Ian Zamora and Brendan Simmons were ruling the lineup, and when joined by Hudson and Siordia, it was like the surfing A-Team was out to play in the peaky perfect little rights.
A solid morning became a solid afternoon, and the sunburnt, tired, and hungry trio sailed off for snacks, another day in the books and another epic surf session in the memory banks.
