Rally for Education
The Manhattan Beach Education Foundation raised roughly $1 million last week during its annual Pledge Week, which included its first community-wide Rally for Education last Thursday.
The funds brought the organization’s total amount raised this year to $3 million of its $4.4 million goal, according to MBEF executive director Susan Warshaw.
“We hit the $3 million mark really because the efforts of Pledge Week,” Warshaw said. “It helped focus our parents and the community on the importance of public education in Manhattan Beach.”
Parents, teachers, students and school and city officials met at the Metlox Plaza last Thursday to offer donations and sign letters that were mailed this week to the governor and to legislators telling regarding the importance of education.
The Mira Costa High School drum line, junior varsity cheerleaders and Manhattan Beach Middle School cheerleaders performed at the rally.
Donations ranged from a few to thousands of dollars.
“Every little bit counts.” Warshaw said. “Each contribution is important to us. It’s not about how much you give, but just that you give.”
MBEF’s annual appeal will continue through Jan. 31, as the organization tries to meet its goal in order to help fund core programs and keep class sizes low next school year.
