Best Kids Park

Best of the Beach logoHermosa Valley Park–The park at Valley Drive and Gould Avenue in northern Hermosa offers 5.3 acres of grassy fields, tree-dotted slopes, hardtop court, outdoor amphitheater and an area for children’s play equipment that is usually thick with playing children.

The playground area now boasts a “universally accessible” swing, purchased by the nonprofit Hermosa Beach Friends of the Parks, which can be used by kids with a variety of physical challenges.

Valley Park was the very first park extolled by Doris Beaman, a member of the Hermosa Beach Historical Society, Hermosa Beach Lawn Bowling Club and Hermosa Beach Garden Club, in a series she wrote for Easy Reader.

Valley is Hermosa’s most widely used traditional park in the city, and the third overall after the 50-acre city-owned beach and the 19.5-acre greenbelt that bisects the town.

The amphitheater at times hosts family-friendly screenings of the Movies in the Park and Shakespeare by the Sea performances during the summer.

There are also plenty of picnic benches, tables and BBQs for birthday parties and other events as well.

Hermosa Valley Park: Valley Drive and Gould, Hermosa Beach.

Runner-up: Polliwog Park, 1600 Manhattan Beach Blvd., Manhattan Beach.
